For those looking for a greater challenge, there is the more demanding trail that leads you up stairs and rocks, while you can choose a quieter walk suitable for prams, among other things, if you want to take it a little easier. But that’s not all – you can also deviate from the main trails to discover places such as Nålsögat, a narrow passage between two rock blocks on the way out towards Skallens Fyr. And at the top of the island rises Carlstens Fortress, which is really well worth a visit.

VISIT CARLSTEN FORTRESS
Carlstens Fortress towers over the capital of sailing. Here, where pirates and privateers once ravaged, the infamous grand thief Lasse-Maja was imprisoned. Herring barons and wholesalers built their big houses with punch porches and carpentry joy. For over 350 years, the fortress has stood as a landmark over Marstrand island, shaping the island’s life, silhouette and history. The fortress is well preserved and bears traces of past times.
